An overview of different Genres

Genre is a French word meaning “type” or “style”. Genre is a way a  film can be put into categories using how the movie is styled with the plot. A genre is like a recipe, certain things will happen in certain genres. In different movies the way genre is portrayed is different. In a love film there may be love and romantic scenes while in a horror film there may be murder and death. These telling scenes within genres are called genre identifiers.

In movies the genre identifies are done differently. Colours such as grey and blue will be used in sad films while bright colours to portray happiness. Music is used with sport movies doing rock hardcore music and family movies have jingles and happiness. Camera angles may be used differently as in a horror movie the camera angles may be from above symbolising dominance.
